About the Vikings Rugby Club

Founded in 1959, the Oshawa Vikings Rugby Club was born when Chris Krause convened a group of 35 local rugby enthusiasts to start a community-focused rugby club in the Durham Region. Since then, the club has grown into a cornerstone of rugby in Durham Region, welcoming players of all ages, genders, and abilities.

What We Offer

  • A complete youth and junior program — from U6 / U8 co-ed minis through to U18 — for both boys and girls.

  • Senior-level rugby for men and women, giving players of all ages a chance to continue playing competitively.

  • A full Mixed-Ability Rugby program, welcoming individuals of diverse abilities, backgrounds, and experiences into the sport with inclusivity and respect.

We believe rugby should be accessible to everyone — no matter age, experience, or ability.

Our Legacy & Achievements

  • The Vikings have one of the largest continuous Junior Girls Rugby programs in Ontario, seeing many girls progress all the way to senior women’s rugby.

  • In 2014, we were honoured with the award for Junior Program of the Year by Rugby Ontario — a recognition of our dedication to youth development.

  • The Vikings became the first Mixed-Ability Sports (MAS) accredited rugby club in North America.

  • In 2022, our Mixed-Ability team became the first Canadian club to play at the International Mixed Ability Rugby Tournament (IMART) — competing internationally, and bringing home strong performances.

  • In 2025, we were honoured with the award for Junior Boys Program of the Year by Rugby Ontario — a recognition of our dedication to youth development.

Our Mission & Values

At the heart of the Vikings is a commitment to community, inclusivity, and lifelong participation. We strive to:

  • Provide opportunities for children, youth, adults, and families to play rugby in a welcoming, supportive environment.

  • Keep costs accessible — working with sponsors, volunteers, and community supporters to ensure financial barriers don’t stop someone from joining.

  • Promote respect, teamwork, sportsmanship and a love for the game — whether you’re new, returning, seasoned, or coming from a different life experience.

  • Break down barriers to sport through Mixed-Ability Rugby, ensuring that everyone who wants to play has a chance.
